Support
Our dedicated and experienced team work with children, adolescents, and their families.
Support is offered to young people suffering from anxiety or depression, emotion regulation difficulties, school refusal, peer and other interpersonal problems, self-harm, suicidality, eating disorders, self-esteem issues, bereavement, coming to terms of divorce, OCD, addictive behaviours, emerging personality disorders, chronic health conditions, and managing symptoms of ADHD and autism.
Therapies
The therapies offered generally depend on the age of the young person. For example, these may include clinical psychology, play therapy, and youth work (collaboration with associated therapists and mental health professionals may be recommended). Family systems often support children below the age of 12. Accordingly, we offer sessions for the whole family and help parents evolve strategies to support their child.
We work correspondingly with parents who are keen to explore their parenting and who want to consider changes to improve family dynamics.
Our approach to parenting is markedly attachment-focussed and places particular emphasis on the connection between family members. Consequently, together we develop strategies that support healthy relationships without punitive measure of behavioural management.
Other Services
Equally important, other services include working with young families and expectant mums and dads, helping families to navigate safe use of technology and providing support to fostering and adoptive parents.
We have extensive experience working with looked-after children, who are in need of receiving trauma-informed therapy.
Trauma-informed and focussed therapeutic work is provided to young people and adults.
What is trauma?
The definition of trauma within an EMDR treatment process is a term used for painful memories a client is presenting which elicit emotional pain, shame, guilt, anxiety, and impact on the overall well-being and mood. The client continues to experience discomfort when being reminded of a past event and struggles to adjust.
As a special interest, I have trained in supporting individuals with the trait of high sensitivity (HS).
To clarify, HS is not a disorder; it is a trait found in about 15 – 20% of the population.
What is High Sensitivity?
Highly sensitive people (HSP) are easily overwhelmed, due to their ability to be highly aware of their external and internal world. As a result, HSP may have very sensitive sensory systems, can experience intense emotions and are highly empathic.
We support families with highly sensitive children (HSC) as well as highly sensitive individuals presenting with or without psychopathology. Evidently, HSC is often misunderstood as neurodevelopmental symptoms such as ASD and ADHD.
